The Sleep-Ins

Songs About Girls and Outer Space

Ingot Rock Records

The Sleep-Ins are a new indie act that’s clearly nodding their heads to favorites that preceded them (the Shins and Pixies are obvious influences).  Sadly they don’t achieve much.  They miss the aspects that made those bands great, instead focusing on more monotonous styling’s without any fluff.  The album is slow, and minus a few certain songs, a chore to listen to.  Luckily Songs About Girls and Outer Space is the first release for Englishman Stefan Pope, American Chad Corley and Australian Josh Schuberth (a true multinational group) together as the Sleep Ins, as there is room for improvement.  Not to say it’s all bad, just rather boring.  Listen to tracks “Silver State” (the album’s fuzzy opener) and “Tonya, Extraplanetary Spaceship Girl” (think about some Man Man styled simplicity for this one) and see if it’s worth it.

Released:  10/19/2010
