Upset! The Rythym

Kit is a joint project between members of several big hitting acts between Los Angeles and Oakland.  Raincoats and XBXRX both have members in Kit, and those members have performed live with even bigger names (Thurston and Kim, Deerhoof).  Both with and despite those credentials, Kit’s second release Invocation leaves a lot to be desired.  Naively expecting something at least decent, what I got was noisy, disjointed rhythm with thrashy, shrilling guitar and unintelligible and often off-key vocals.  And all the there is a certain unfinished air to the package.  I don’t know if Kit intended it to sound demo-ish (and with all the other backwards aspects of the album, I wouldn’t be surprised) because if not then Kit needs to seriously reevaluate their producer.  Readers, avoid this at all costs.

Released:  10/4/2010
