The Fall

Parlophone Records

Damon Albarn has never been afraid to push his pet project in any direction he wishes.  That pet project of course is the world famous “band” the Gorillaz, a collaborative effort between Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett (of Tank Girl fame) to create a virtual band led by Albarn’s infectious beats and vocal stylings accompanied by Hewlett’s gorgeous character drawings and animations.  I mean, everyone can remember the first time they saw the duo’s “Clint Eastwood” music video, right? Now he has brought the Gorillaz to a new space, having recorded this entire album on his iPad.  Say what you will about the product, but The Fall certainly feels professional.  The real problem is that the Gorillaz are losing steam, their last release Plastic Beach fell short of expectations and The Fall just feels like more of the same leaving me wondering what happened to that original Gorillaz soul that made them who they are.
