Turncoats

Cory Mon & The Starlight Gospel

Turncoats

My Forlorn Wallet Records

Cory Mon and his Starlight Gospel band have something here.  Their raw Americana melodies steadfast country-drawl vocals merge together in their sophomore release Turncoats to form a styling that’s both a relentless tribute to the America’s “west’s” rich musical history and a tongue and check reference to the values and lifestyles of the men and women in their part of the world’s history.  Cory Mon & The Starlight Gospel is fronted by singer and songwriter (and band’s namesake) Cory Mon, who is in turned backed by The Starlight Gospel, which consists of multi-instrumentalist Eric Ellsworth (he supplies the “Western” style through his flawless guitar, banjo, keys and the essential harmonica), both stand-up and electric bassist Joshua Dunn and percussionist Ronnie Strauss.  As Cory Mon & The Starlight Gospel’s second release, Turncoats ought to turn some heads.  They exist in an all too empty space.
