Meyrin Fields EP

Broken Bells

Meyrin Fields EP

Columbia Records

Oh how I love me some Danger Mouse.  Broken Bells is one of the newer projects from the producer/DJ who seems to have his hands in everything.  Comprised of James Mercer from the acclaimed act The Shins and Dangermouse (who exists in everything from Danger Doom to Gnarls Barkely), Broken Bells broke out last year with their self-titled debut release.  A year later the duo has joined back up for another release, this time a little shorter and a lot more centered.  While certainly as excellent as their first, the direction seems to be pointed in one specific spot.  The sounds are more similar from track to track, faster paced and more akin to The Shins’ work than Danger Mouses’, which Broken Bells seemed to cater more.   This transition is welcome, as Danger Mouse is a more versatile producer than Mercer a singer.  A welcome, though short, second release from Broken Bells.
