It’s pleasant, if not a little bland.  Maybe it’s just the overwhelming (to me) country influence that turns me off, but there’s something not quite right.  Mariana Bell’s voice is spectacular, almost unparalleled when compared to her more mainstream competitors and her lyrics and provoking and intelligent.  Yet it’s her move into unfamiliar territory (her last album was tastefully lo-fi, with less of that western influence) that leaves the bad taste in my mouth.  I’m sure fans of the genre she has most recently explored will enjoy, just not exactly for me.  Or a lot of Synthesis readers, I imagine.  There just isn’t anything special enough here to make it a worthy pick-up for most.  Not to say you should avoid it, and if anything mentioned appeals to you, look for this one.  If not you would do best checking out here sophomore release Book.
