DJ Kicks – Apparat

DJ Kicks – Apparat

!K7 Records

The DJ Kicks series is an amazing proof of concept.  Take popular DJs from around the world and give them the length of an album to string together a mash up of their favorite songs and styles.  The newest released from the series comes from Apparat, a German electronic artist who is probably, for the most part, unknown around these parts.  I, for one, had not heard of him until I found this record on a desk at work.  Far from a showcase of original music from their DJs, the DJ Kicks series instead exists as a place for said DJs to show the world what they might come up with as a dream, kicker mix for one eclectic dance party.  And Apparat does not disappoint.  Complete with tracks from artists ranging from Martyn to a Four Tet remix of Born Ruffians “I Need a Life,” I could totally see myself kickin’ it down to a set list like this.  It makes me want to take a deep look at Apparat’s own, solo music.

Released: 10/26/2010
